Mouth cancer is one of the fastest increasing cancers in the UK, yet awareness remains low with symptoms generally ignored.

Most adults do not know how to check their own mouth for any early warning signs and do not know what lifestyle behaviours could increase the risk of mouth cancer.

More information

This training session will explain more about mouth cancer and the risk factors and is aimed at raising awareness for those attending the session as well as using the knowledge to promote awareness with service users. Making small changes to lifestyle behaviours can help reduce the risk of developing mouth cancer and checking the mouth regularly for any changes could save many lives through early intervention.

Learning outcomes from the session will include increased knowledge and awareness of:

  • Mouth cancer statistics in the UK
  • The main causes of mouth cancer
  • The early warning signs
  • Self-checking the mouth - guidance
  • The main risk factors associated with mouth cancers
