This online course is for professionals working with children and young people who would like to learn more about self-harm and how to support children and young people that may be engaging in self-harming behaviours.
This session is open to all professionals but please note that the aim is to provide general information and guidance.
The content will not cover SEND or Neurodiversity in detail and we will not be able to explore individual situations or concerns within the session as it wouldn’t be safe to do so.
We do provide signposting to other services and support for professionals to help support children and young people who self-harm following the training.
By the end of this session, you will have an understanding of:

- Guidance for professionals
- Brief picture of self-harm in Medway & nationally
- Types of self-harm
- Risk factors & circumstances
- Behavioural & physical warning signs
- Self-harm cycle
- Adolescent brain development
- Accessing & treating self-harm
- Harm minimisation
- Ways you can help & support young people
Please be advised that bookings for courses should be cancelled via the health portal at least one week before the training date. If you are unable to do this via this portal due to bookings for the course being closed - please email childhealth@medway.gov.uk to cancel your place. If this does not happen or there is non-attendance on the day/s of the course then delegates will be charged £50 (individual circumstances will be considered)
