The Medway safeguarding children’s obesity framework is an approach that recognises excessive weight in children as not only a health issue but also a potential safeguarding concern when it significantly impacts a child’s wellbeing or when carers are unable or unwilling to make necessary lifestyle changes. The framework promotes early identification, multi-agency professional collaboration & responsibilities (including health, education, and social care), and a balanced, supportive response that prioritises the child’s best interests without blaming families. It emphasises assessing risk, providing interventions, and escalating concerns only when there is evidence of neglect or harm, ensuring that children receive appropriate protection and support to achieve healthy growth and development
