Teach to Reach: Suicide Awareness for RSHE Secondary Educators (3hrs)

This session is designed for secondary school staff delivering or supporting RSHE who want to build confidence in addressing suicide with care and clarity. It offers practical guidance on recognising risk, responding safely using the P.L.A.N. approach, and supporting young people through difficult conversations.

Please note that this course is only available to people who work directly with children and young people in Medway and we can only accept a maximum of 2 people from each setting on each course, this is to ensure a fair opportunity for everyone.

Participants will explore cultural perspectives, learn how to signpost effectively, and reflect on the emotional impact of this work. The session provides a supportive space to develop the skills and understanding needed to respond to suicide concerns with confidence and compassion.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the prevalence and impact of suicide among young people
• Explore cultural differences in perceptions of suicide
• Recognise warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors in young people
• Apply the P.L.A.N. approach to respond safely and appropriately to suicide concerns
• Confidently signpost to relevant local and national support services
• Reflect on the emotional toll of this work and apply strategies for self-care and boundary setting
