This online course is for professionals working with primary aged children in Medway who would like to learn more about self-harm and how to support children that may be engaging in self-harming behaviours.

This session is open to all professionals but please note that the aim is to provide general information and guidance.

The content will not cover SEND or Neurodiversity in detail and we will not be able to explore individual situations or concerns within the session as it wouldn’t be safe to do so.

We do provide signposting to other services and support for professionals to help support children who self-harm following the training

By the end of this session, you will have an understanding of:

  • What is self-harm?
  • Why do children self-harm?
  • Self-harming behaviour in children & signs
  • Self-harm cycle
  • What we should do & say
  • Labelling emotions through play
  • Well-being plans
  • Distraction & coping techniques
  • Seeking further support

Please be advised that bookings for courses should be cancelled via the health portal at least one week before the training date. If you are unable to do this via this portal due to bookings for the course being closed - please email childhealth@medway.gov.uk to cancel your place.
